Congratulations on publishing Unlocking the Poem! Can't wait to see it and feel more in touch with Ricky and his great workshops. (Was in Boston, now in North Carolina.) Is it possible to send a check for some autographed copies via snail mail?

Thanks,

I'm thoroughly enjoying learning about poetry and how to write and appreciate it even more. This is a wonderful teaching and learning collection. As a former school district administrator, I can see kids in high school classes devouring these assignments and producing terrific creative pieces. Of course as you already know, adults are certain to benefit as well.

Congratulations on a wonderful piece of literature that will help to develop more beautiful poetry.

Hello Kate, It's so good to hear that your poets' group is still so attached to Ricky! How many years has it been since you worked with him? He is a wonderful and inspiring teacher, and over his 40 year career as a poetry teacher and workshop leader, he has helped thousands of students. Unlocking the Poem is his latest effort to bring his special form of guidance to a larger poetry-world. (You know, of course, about his first big book, The Intimate Art of Writing Poetry, and he has also published dozens of other books and chapbooks, such as The Tao of Poetry, On Pain of Discovery, Against a Wall of Light, and The Conimicut Poems, to name just a few. Many of these books are still available through Ricky's own website, www.ottonemriccio.com, and also in libraries around the world.)

Hopefully you and the rest of your group are all going to order this new book; you can do so by clicking the "Buy Now" button at the top of the page. And please let us know what you think after you've had a chance to look through it!

I am so happy to find out that Ricky is writing, and to see his sweet face again! Please give him my best -- and tell him that the poets from North Kingstown, RI still talk about him with reverence and awe and genuine fondness! We are writing poetry, wishing we could submit it to his magical space where he whittles away the fluff and finds the true gem -- the true poem!

Warmly, Kate O'Kula

I can't wait to see this book. I remember many of Ricky's assignments fondly--some not so fondly--but all of them pushed me to try new things and learn more about writing my own poetry. I'm having a week of poetry prompts from Ricky on my blog, www.ellensteinbaum.com/blog and I hope it will help introduce Ricky and this book to more people who want to unlock their poems.

Hi Ellen,

I think this is great and I just learned about THE BOOK, a few minutes ago.

As for elephants, it's coming up elephants for me, as it does, periodically, since I do adore elephants and always have. I still remember the book The Roots of Heaven by Romain Gary. I wept through his book because they were so hunted for their ivory, and still are. I think there's something magic and majestic about these creatures and if I believed in reincarnation, which maybe I do, then I must have been an elephant. My sister is now reading Water for Elephants which is really a good book and I heartily recommend this.

I like your poem, especially its droll way of ending.

An aside: the Hebrew letter aleph is close to, eleph, and I would notice these things....

Best of Success to YOU and to RICK with this Book.
